Morocco Combats Drought: Rabat to Irrigate Parks with Recycled Wastewater

Morocco has decided to use treated wastewater to irrigate green spaces, due to the scarcity of rainfall. The city of Rabat has been chosen for the experimental phase of this process, which helps to fill the gap left by the drought.
The work will be launched very soon for the construction of the supply canals from the Aïn Aouda treatment plant to irrigate the green spaces of Rabat, including the Royal Golf of Dar Es-Salam. Currently, the expropriation procedures have been initiated in order to gather the necessary space for this type of construction, according to Maghreb Intelligence.
Morocco has decided to do without the whims of nature and is multiplying water projects to meet the population’s drinking water needs. This is the case of the project to multiply seawater desalination plants. According to the Minister of Equipment Abdelkader Amara, the city of Casablanca will host the largest plant of its kind in Africa. It will have a production capacity of around 300 million m3 per year.
