Morocco’s Coffee Prices Surge After Eid, Federation Denies Responsibility

The National Federation of Café and Restaurant Owners in Morocco has explained the increase in beverage prices observed after the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, denying being the source of this increase.
The Federation has not made any decision on this matter, clarified Nourredine El Harraq in a statement to the press, recalling that his institution is not authorized to set prices, a prerogative that falls under the Competition Council.
This price increase noted in some cafes after Eid al-Fitr is due to the increase in the price of coffee, said the president of the National Federation of Café and Restaurant Owners, who called on professionals to show "moderation" and to take into account the purchasing power of Moroccans in setting prices.
The café and restaurant sector is indeed in crisis, but the increase in beverage prices of one to two dirhams would not be enough to offset the losses suffered by professionals, added El Harraq, calling for finding viable solutions to save the sector.
