Morocco Coach Regragui Under Pressure as Federation Demands Wins in Upcoming Friendlies

The two upcoming friendly matches of the Moroccan national team represent a major challenge for the Atlas Lions coach, Walid Regragui. If his protégés do not perform well against Angola and Mauritania, it will be the end of his adventure.

In case of defeat against Angola and Mauritania in March, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) could part ways with Walid Regragui. Faouzi Lekjaâ, the boss of Moroccan football, renewed his confidence in him after the disappointing participation of the Atlas Lions in the 2023 CAN Côte d’Ivoire, but his future remains threatened. "If Walid Regragui fails to defeat Angola and Mauritania, his fate will be the removal from the Moroccan national team. Fouzi Lekjaâ will give him a last chance to win and correct the mistakes made during the Africa Cup of Nations. The president, like the Moroccan public, cannot live forever on the exploit of the team during the World Cup in Qatar," explained to Al Araby Al Jadeed a source close to the boss of Moroccan football.

And to add: "What the Moroccan national team achieved during the World Cup in Qatar has inscribed us in history through the front door, but we must not rest on our laurels without seeking to improve ourselves. That’s why Fouzi Lekjaa was clear in his discussions with the coach during their last meeting, insisting on the need to overcome past mistakes and build a strong team capable of achieving new feats for Moroccan football."

Currently, Regragui is monitoring the technical and physical performance of several Moroccan professionals in Europe before announcing the list of Atlas Lions who will participate in the next training camp at the Mohammed VI Football Center. He plans to call up four new players who did not participate in the 2023 CAN Côte d’Ivoire.
