Walid Regragui fired? The FRMF reacts

Rumors of a return of French coach Hervé Renard at the head of the Moroccan national team to replace Walid Regragui, coach of the Atlas Lions after the participation of Achraf Hakimi and his teammates in the Olympic Games to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11 are false. The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) does not intend to dismiss the Moroccan technician.
Will Hervé Renard replace Walid Regragui at the head of the Moroccan national team? "The FRMF has no intention of parting ways with the national coach," said a well-informed source within the governing body of Moroccan football to Alyaoum24, thus denying the rumors that are spreading after the two friendly matches of the Atlas Lions against Angola (1-0) and Mauritania (0-0) and the recent statements of the coach of the French women’s football team. "I have the 2026 World Cup in a corner of my mind," he said, specifying that he was open to the idea of representing a different country, or not. In the past, Hervé Renard had participated in two World Cup editions, in 2018 with Morocco and in 2022 with Saudi Arabia. The same source within the FRMF denied the rumors of the start of negotiations with the French technician to take over the national team after the end of the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Before the two friendly matches of the international break, Walid Regragui’s position was threatened. "If Walid Regragui fails to defeat Angola and Mauritania, his fate will be the removal from the Moroccan national team. Fouzi Lekjaâ will give him one last chance to win and correct the mistakes made during the Africa Cup of Nations. The president, like the Moroccan public, cannot live forever on the achievement of the team during the World Cup in Qatar," a source close to the boss of Moroccan football had explained to Al Araby Al Jadeed.
She added: "What the Moroccan national team achieved during the World Cup in Qatar has written us into history through the front door, but we must not rest on our laurels without trying to improve ourselves. That’s why Fouzi Lekjaa was clear in his discussions with the coach during their last meeting, insisting on the need to overcome past mistakes and build a strong team capable of achieving new feats for Moroccan football."
