Morocco Coach Regragui Retains FRMF Support Despite Zambia Setback

Despite some criticism following the poor performance against Zambia, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, reaffirms his support for national team coach Walid Regragui.
According to a source cited by the website Kooora, Lekjaa would maintain his trust in Regragui until the final stages of the next Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) scheduled in Morocco in 2025, and until the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
"For the moment, there is no question of talking about the future of the coach, as long as he is in an ideal situation with his group in the qualifiers, where he is at the top of his group with a perfect score," the source said. "There will be an evaluation of the performance of the Lions in the next phase, but there is absolutely no question of dismissing Regragui from his position."
This decision is in line with the encouraging performances of the Atlas Lions under Regragui’s leadership. Indeed, the national team recently consolidated its position as leader of Group E in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, winning 6-0 against the Republic of Congo in the fourth round.
This overwhelming victory brings Morocco’s total points to nine, placing them at the top of the group ahead of Tanzania (six points), Niger (three points) and Zambia (three points), while the Republic of Congo is at the bottom without any points.
