Morocco Coach Halilhodzic Shifts Approach After Team’s Conakry Ordeal

Vahid Halilhodzic has called on Moroccan players to work harder to deserve a place in the national team. The fear, uncertainty and anxiety experienced by the Moroccan delegation in Conakry was an opportunity to further tighten the bonds and work on the cohesion of the group.

Perceived as a rigid man, the coach has decided to make efforts to be closer to his players, staying in touch with them until the next meeting. This will be during the preparation camp for the double confrontation against Guinea-Bissau for the 3rd and 4th matchdays of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, writes the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.

Aware that living through a coup while they have come to play is difficult, the coach has provided psychological support to the players before they return to their respective clubs. Halilhodzic has asked the Moroccan players to tame the different emotions received in Conakry and to focus their efforts on the upcoming matches.

He also stressed the importance of playing for his country and invited them to give their best with their clubs, in order to find a place in the next international competitions such as the CAN or the World Cup qualifiers.

Currently, Morocco is second with 3 points but with one game less. Next month, the Atlas Lions will face the Lycaons of Guinea-Bissau in Nouakchott, Mauritania.
