Morocco’s New Car Sales Surge 37% in Q1 2021, Led by Dacia and Renault

Car sales in Morocco are rebounding after the difficulties experienced in 2020. They are showing double-digit growth, marked by the sale of 44,000 new cars in the first three months of 2021.
"New car sales stood at 44,163 units in the first three months of 2021, up 37.4% compared to the end of March 2020," according to statistics from the Association of Automotive Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).
The Romanian concessionaire "Dacia" with its models classified in Morocco in the "passenger cars" (VP) category sold 11,349 units, i.e. more than 25% compared to the previous year. Renault and Hyundai, for their part, sold 5,133 and 3,140 units respectively from their car showrooms. Kuga, elected car of the year 2021 in Morocco, boosted Ford’s sales by 75.71%, while the French Citroën and the Italian Fiat recorded 11.25% and 7.16% of the automotive market share.
According to sector experts reported by MAP, this increase in turnover is linked to the arrival in car showrooms of new models quickly adopted by many customers, as well as the organization by dealers of promotional sales offering low-rate payment options. These promotional offers, once limited to year-end discounts and gadgets, have extended, among other things, to maintenance contracts and repayment deferrals, the experts note.
