Morocco’s Car Sales Surge 5.9% in 2021 Despite Pandemic, Dacia Leads Market

New car sales recorded a good performance during the year 2021, despite the health crisis. They thus reached 175,360 units, an increase of 5.9% compared to 2019.
These sales are divided between passenger cars (VP) with 154,123 new registrations, up 4%, as well as light commercial vehicles (VUL) with 21,237 units sold.
However, this increase could have been more important, if the sector had not been confronted with the shortage of semiconductors, worldwide, which resulted in a slowdown in sales during the second half of 2021.
By brand, Dacia continues to dominate the VP market with a 28.6% share, ahead of its parent company Renault (20,386 cars and a 13.22% market share). Peugeot, for its part, climbs to the third step of the podium of sales with 12,230 vehicles.
The Korean brand Hyundai is fourth with 12,008 sales (up 20.84%) and a 7.79% market share. Citroën is in fifth position with 7,317 sales (down 6.71%) and a 4.74% market share. Opel ranks sixth, with a nearly 80% increase in its sales. The German brand sold 6,924 passenger vehicles in Morocco in 2021, or a 4.5% market share.
