Morocco car imports surge 25% - vehicle spending soars 2026

By the end of April 2026, passenger car imports reached 13.177 billion dirhams, compared to 10.492 billion dirhams a year earlier. The increase is 2.685 billion dirhams, representing a 25.6% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

The increase is even more pronounced for utility vehicles. Imports of this category rose from 2.309 billion dirhams at the end of April 2025 to 4.076 billion dirhams at the end of April 2026. This represents an increase of 1.767 billion dirhams, or 76.5% year-on-year.

Automotive parts follow the same trend. Imports of parts and components for passenger cars reached 14.220 billion dirhams, compared to 10.757 billion a year earlier, an increase of 3.463 billion dirhams. The increase reaches 32.2%.

These figures show a clear upturn in automobile market-related purchases. Passenger cars, utility vehicles and spare parts are among the main items explaining the increase in imports of finished consumer products and finished equipment products.

Imports of finished consumer products increased by 15.2% year-on-year, reaching 72.975 billion dirhams by the end of April 2026. This trend is notably driven by purchases of parts for passenger cars, passenger cars themselves, as well as medicines and other pharmaceutical products.

On the finished equipment products side, the increase reaches 21.8%, with a total of 72.607 billion dirhams. Utility vehicles are among the items that contributed most to this increase, alongside aircraft and other air or space vehicles, as well as aircraft parts.

Overall, Morocco imported 295.901 billion dirhams worth of goods by the end of April 2026, compared to 262.594 billion a year earlier. The overall increase reaches 12.7%. In this general movement, the automobile sector appears as one of the most dynamic sectors of Moroccan purchases abroad.
