Morocco Cancels Religious Festivals Amid Coronavirus Concerns

The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has canceled, on Wednesday, March 11, all religious moussems due to the new coronavirus that is raging in several countries, including Morocco.
This decision was made "in accordance with the guidelines of the Sharia regarding the protection of souls and bodies, against ruin and any harm, taking into account the epidemic that has appeared in a number of countries and the medical advice related to this, particularly those concerning the prevention of contagion during gatherings," says a statement from the ministry.
Ulema, preachers and imams are invited to "raise awareness among people about the issue of epidemic prevention, in particular by respecting the rules of hygiene and avoiding all possibilities of contamination".
