Morocco breaks tourist attendance records

Morocco is establishing itself as a leading tourist destination. By the end of October 2024, the kingdom had already welcomed 14.6 million visitors, shattering the record of the year 2023.
This 19% increase compared to 2023 represents an additional 2.3 million tourists. Foreign visitors are flocking (+22%), as are Moroccans residing abroad (+16%).
October 2024 was particularly prosperous with 1.5 million arrivals, a spectacular increase of 30% compared to the previous year, said Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, attributing this success to the 2023-2026 roadmap, implemented to boost the sector.
Dakhla, "the pearl of the South", is making its mark. With 250,000 hotel nights in September 2024 (+26%), the city is increasingly attracting visitors. The hotel occupancy rate has risen to 40%, and air traffic has exploded (+30% of seats).
Currently, Dakhla is connected to Paris by three weekly flights (Royal Air Maroc and Transavia) and to Las Palmas by two weekly flights (Binter Canarias).
As of January 2025, Ryanair will offer two new direct routes to Madrid and Lanzarote (two flights per week). These lines will add 16,000 seats, thus increasing capacity by 50%. The objective of four international routes to Dakhla within two years seems to be on the right track.
