Morocco’s Boufal Apologizes After AFCON Penalty Miss Eliminates Team

Soufiane Boufal will probably have a bitter taste of his first Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) with the "Atlas Lions". He came on as a substitute in the second half. His game, based on speed and dribbling, was unable to pierce the Beninese defense. And he is one of the two players who missed the penalty in the penalty shootout.
Aware that he bears some responsibility for his team’s failure, he is now asking for forgiveness from Moroccan supporters. "We are all very disappointed to go out today, especially for the Moroccans. We apologize to you. When I came in, I tried to bring the maximum. I think I brought what I could, but as I said: penalties are a lottery. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose. We will come back stronger, inshallah!"
The reaction of the Moroccan players, as well as that of the national coach, was more or less similar. Yesterday, Hervé Renard had said he was ashamed towards the supporters, many of whom had sacrificed themselves to attend the Moroccan team’s matches.
