Morocco Boosts Transport Capacity for Summer Influx of Returning Expatriates

The government claims to have taken all the necessary arrangements in terms of transport to ensure the smooth running of the Marhaba 2022 operation, launched a few days ago.

Speaking before the House of Advisors on the operation, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, stated that his department is working in conjunction with all the parties involved in the "Marhaba" operation to ensure a sufficient supply of maritime and air transport, in terms of diversification of routes and number of trips, while ensuring the support of transport companies and granting them the necessary authorizations.

Concretely, the maritime transport plan of the fleet approved by the "Marhaba 2022" operation provides for a series of measures aimed at ensuring the fluidity of traffic and improving the quality of services provided to Moroccans abroad, noting that a significant number of ships has been mobilized on the maritime lines.

Regarding air transport, the minister explained that the supply offered is similar to that of 2019, despite the constraints resulting from two years of pandemic, stressing that 48 air transport companies, including three national ones, have been authorized to organize an average of 1,660 weekly flights, distributed over 115 airports in 46 countries on four continents, with Europe being the main destination with 1,420 weekly flights, or 85% of the total traffic.

As for international road transport by bus, Abdeljalil indicated that his department has taken the necessary arrangements to ensure a sufficient supply in this regard, noting that there are currently 73 international transport companies, which will operate 76 international passenger transport lines, ensuring 670 trips for some 33,500 seats per week.
