Morocco’s Driving Test Failure Rates Spike After Unannounced Changes

Transportation sector professionals, as well as candidates for the theoretical exam to obtain a driving license, are questioning the increase in failure rates for this exam over the past few weeks.
Those concerned have expressed their dissatisfaction with this unusual increase in failure rates for the theoretical driving license exam in several regions of Morocco. According to a recent report from the National Transport Observatory, the increase in failure rates for this exam noted in recent weeks is due to the introduction of new questions in the tests given to candidates, without the latter being informed beforehand. In other words, the lack of official communication about these changes made to the content of the tests has sparked strong criticism.
The National Transport Observatory invites the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) to take responsibility and make public the failure and success rates for this exam, in a move towards transparency. For the observatory, the publication of this data is crucial to preserve the confidence of candidates and trainers in the current system, especially after this reform related to improving the content of the tests for the theoretical driving license exam.
Moreover, instructors are questioning the relevance of the newly introduced questions, noting that the current exam content no longer reflects the reality of road traffic experienced by Moroccan drivers. These new questions have made the exam "complex and unrealistic," according to one of them. Professionals are calling on authorities to communicate more on the subject to ensure the reliability of the exams, insisting on the need to revise the new questions in collaboration with sector stakeholders and taking into account the road reality in Morocco.
