Morocco Boosts National Security with Major US Arms and Technology Purchases

Morocco is further translating its policy of securing its territory into action. To this end, this year it has made major purchases of weapons, military vehicles, security software and special training from the US government.

In order to better preserve the integrity of its territory, the Kingdom is allocating large resources. This year, Morocco has made several purchases for its port, air and border platforms, as well as for the internal security of the country, informs a document from the US export authority, reports Médias24. In total, the Kingdom has acquired large scanners, satellite radio communication equipment, equipment for the fight against terrorism and the diffusion of bombs, advanced surveillance equipment, etc.

This involves the acquisition of 222 "Abrams" tanks, as well as technical assistance for them, as well as several "F 16" fighter jets, "Apache" helicopters (24 units for $1.5 billion, 126 "M1A1" tanks [$0.75 billion], 300 "TOW" missile launchers, with 1800 rockets for $180 million, as well as several "C-130" and "CH-47D" helicopters, for the army.

The Kingdom’s military budget is expected to reach $3.9 billion by 2022.

In addition, a new national ID card modernization project is about to be launched at the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN). Also, an investment of $27 million will help strengthen security at the various airports in the Kingdom.
