Morocco to Invest $250 Million in F-16 Fleet Maintenance and Upgrades

An agreement of $250 million has been submitted to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), a US government entity under the Department of Defense (DoD), for the maintenance of Moroccan F16s and for the transfer of equipment to Morocco. With this amount, the Kingdom of Morocco can now equip itself with air-to-air missiles and bombs.

For the maintenance of its fleet of F-16s, Morocco is committing to spend the tidy sum of $250 million, according to a statement from the US government agency, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), relayed by the site, telquel.ma. Pending the final agreement that must result from the authorization of a law, this deal also includes the purchase of spare parts for Moroccan F-16s, equipment for training, as well as "documentation".

This negotiation, according to the press release relayed by the same site, aims to contribute, as usual, to the foreign policy and national security of the United States, through the improvement of Morocco’s security, a major non-NATO ally, and an important force for political stability and economic progress in North Africa. In addition, it is a question of avoiding the alteration of the military balance in the area. The American defense industry, Lockheed Martin, is the main contractor for this big market.

Another DoD press release, dated March 25, 2019, reported on the order of 25 new F-16 fighter jets, doubling its fleet in this regard, for a cost of $3.787 billion.
