Morocco Boosts Food and Gas Subsidies by 28% in 2022 Budget

The government has announced that a credit of 16.2 billion DH has been planned in the 2022 Finance Bill to subsidize the prices of butane gas and food products.
This envelope is up 28% compared to 2020, indicates the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which specifies that in addition to the price of butane gas, the prices of flour, sugar, and soft wheat will be taken into account.
Of the 16.2 billion dirhams allocated, 2.61 billion dirhams will be used as a subsidy for sugar while 1.46 billion dirhams will be allocated to flour, including 428 million dirhams for the support of imported soft wheat during the period from February 1 to May 15, 2021.
For its part, the subsidy charge for butane gas prices is expected to reach 9.932 billion dirhams at the end of September 2021, it is specified.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the overall compensation burden should reach nearly 14.07 billion DH during the first nine months of 2021.
