Morocco Boosts Coastal Security with High-Tech Surveillance to Combat Illegal Immigration

Morocco has decided to strengthen the security of its coasts due to the constantly increasing attempts at illegal immigration. To this end, it intends to apply two major measures.
Strengthen the manpower of the law enforcement agencies and install ultramodern communication and surveillance means. These are the major actions that Morocco intends to take in the coming days, in order to intensify the security of its coasts.
For years, many candidates for illegal immigration and drug traffickers have been storming its coasts.
The cities of Ceuta and Melilla, in the north of the country, indeed serve as starting points for sub-Saharan Africans wishing to reach Europe, reports the newspaper Al Ahdath Al Maghribia.
The same source indicates that 6-meter high fences surrounding the barriers and barbed wire have been installed in order to patrol these two regions of the country.
The announcement of the implementation of these security measures comes in a context marked by a project to install latest generation cameras, carried out by the Spanish authorities.
In total, 35 cameras will be installed before the end of 2019. Already, some intelligent ones have been installed to secure the border posts of Beni Ansar and Tarajal, near Melilla and Ceuta.
