Morocco Boosts Civil Servant Pay and Minimum Wage in New Labor Agreement

Friday 26 April 2019, by Said

On Thursday evening, three trade union centers and the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM-employers) as well as the government signed a new agreement which mainly provides for salary increases for all civil servants as well as increases in social benefits.

It was therefore agreed on a salary increase for civil servants ranging from 400 to 500 dirhams depending on the scales as well as a 10% increase in the minimum wages SMIG (Guaranteed Minimum Interprofessional Wage) and SMAG (Guaranteed Minimum Agricultural Wage).

Concretely, all scales below grade 10 and grade 5 will now receive 500 dirhams more per month, while grades above 10 will see their salary increase by 400 dirhams. The government is giving itself 3 years, i.e. until 2022, to pass on all the increases.

The agreement also provides for a revaluation of social benefits, starting with family allowances. They are now set at 300 dirhams per child, compared to 200 dirhams previously for the first three children.

These increases should cost the State some 7 billion dirhams per year.
