Ryanair Continues Marrakech-Vatry Flights Despite Exit Threat, Leaving Travelers Uncertain

Wednesday 9 April 2025, by Sylvanus

Although it had threatened to leave the Marne runways on March 31, the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair continues to operate flights between Marrakech and Vatry. But nothing indicates that it is completely giving up the idea of leaving.

Travelers returning from Morocco testify. "In our misfortune, we were lucky," says Jennifer Jacquet to Le Parisien. In fact, we went through all this stress for nothing, everyone panicked but the flights are still assured. We showed up, without really believing it, to take our flight on March 30 and everything went very well. On the return, on April 2, we saw the plane leave full, heading for Morocco. But me, until the last minute, I never thought I would see Marrakech!" Like her, many travelers have had a similar experience between the end of March and the beginning of April.

In a letter dated February 21 addressed to the management of Vatry airport (Marne), Ryanair had indicated that it had been "forced to review its capacities in France" due to the increase in the solidarity tax on airline tickets in France, included in the 2025 budget. The company had announced that it would be eliminating its two routes to Porto and Marrakech. Applicable since March 1, this tax has increased from 2.63 euros to 7.4 euros for domestic and European flights.

Since March 30, Ryanair continues its flight offer at Vatry airport, but it is difficult to know if the flights will still be maintained. "We didn’t think Ryanair would remain silent. Currently, we still can’t reach them, but we see that they are ensuring the high season flights. It’s not written, but we know it’s going to be fine. On the other hand, we will have to be careful at the end of this season. We don’t know if they will stay beyond September. They are capable of withdrawing from one day to the next, even if their retraction period is three months," comments the president of the departmental council, Jean-Marc Roze.

Pending a response, Vatry is active for the summer of 2026. Its objective: to attract new airlines, to make up for an unexpected departure of Ryanair.
