Morocco Boosts Agri-Food Sector with New Import Substitution Strategy

Operators in the fruit and vegetable processing sector will benefit from the new import substitution strategy of the Ministry of Industry. The Moroccan government has just adopted a draft decree to this effect.
The draft decree on the quality of canned and semi-preserved vegetables (tomato concentrate, sweet corn, palm heart...) whose regulatory provisions will soon come into force, comes to accompany and structure the sector whose export dynamics is strong, reports Les Inspirations Éco.
This new order involves the redefinition of certain positions such as compliance with the requirements of law 28-07 on traceability, health authorization... indicates the daily which recommends the development of a good practice guide in order to prepare the operators for the new regulatory framework.
There is no shortage of export opportunities, observes the newspaper, citing the case of the tomato canning sub-sector, in particular the concentrates, sauces, ketchup... in high demand. Between 2016 and 2019, imports grew by nearly 13% for revenues that exceeded $19 million.
