Morocco to Boost Salaries for 20,000 Civil Servants in Long-Awaited Revaluation

Civil servants promoted in recent years but whose salary has not been revalued will see their situation settled in the coming months.
According to the Deputy Minister of Budget Faouzi Lakjaâ, it concerns nearly 20,000 civil servants who will be able to benefit from a salary increase, reports Al Akhbar, according to which a budget envelope of 8 billion dirhams has been planned as part of the 2022 Finance Bill.
The newspaper recalls that it was the former head of government Saad Eddine El Othmani who had frozen through a note taken in March 2020, all promotions, advancement and recruitment in all sectors of the civil service.
This measure, described as urgent, taken in the aftermath of the establishment of the state of health emergency, was aimed at reducing public spending in order to be able to cope with the health crisis, the daily specifies.
It was also supposed to relieve the state budget and at the same time allow the government to direct the available funds to deal with the unforeseen events and challenges presented by the health crisis.
