Morocco Bolsters Military with Advanced US Abrams A2 Tanks Amid Regional Tensions

The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) will receive new state-of-the-art American tanks in the coming days. This will strengthen its armament in a context marked by tensions with Algeria.

After the acquisitions of 222 Abrams A1 tanks from the United States for over $1 billion in 2012, and then 162 Abrams M1A2 for $1.25 billion, Morocco will soon receive new state-of-the-art American tanks. On its Facebook page, the FAR Maroc forum announces the upcoming receipt of "new batches of American Abrams A2 war machines, "modified according to the specifications requested by the kingdom".

Considered one of the most renowned and powerful in the world, the Abrams tank has been used in several wars, including the Second Gulf War and the War in Afghanistan. It is a classic product since 1979 that has been declined in many versions: M1A1, M1A2, M1A2-SEP, among others, says the FAR Maroc forum. Morocco has acquired "M1A1-SA (Situational Awareness) tanks, the basic M1A1 version, refurbished to zero hours/zero kilometers and modernized to reach the equivalent level to the latest models currently available," it is specified.
