Morocco Bolsters Military with 500 Advanced US Humvees in $10 Million Deal

Morocco has acquired several state-of-the-art multipurpose light armored vehicles (HUMVEE) following the approval of the US Congress in February. These vehicles will be made available to the various corps of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and will be deployed on various fronts, particularly in the Sahara.

The Moroccan army is being strengthened with the acquisition of 500 latest generation Hummers intended for the infantry and logistics at a cost of $10 million. "These are new generation military Hummers that will join various corps and units of the FAR as part of an ongoing process of renewal and modernization of the army’s equipment," explained Abdelhamid Harifi, its military consultant, to Médias24. According to him, this acquisition is of paramount importance for the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). These vehicles are particularly well suited to the difficult conditions encountered in border areas.

"The acquisition of 4x4 vehicles for an operational army deployed on different fronts, particularly in the Sahara and on the land borders of the kingdom, is essential to maintain an active fleet, in good operational condition and easily mobile in case of emergency," assuring the expert, noting moreover that "the operational conditions in the Sahara mean that the wear and tear and breakage rate of vehicles is important". Consequently, the need to constantly and regularly purchase vehicles as consumables is paramount," he adds.
