Morocco Bolsters Border Security with Advanced US Armored Vehicles

Morocco has received new American weapons to be used for border surveillance missions.

"Morocco has received an unspecified number of M1117 armored vehicles, each equipped with a turret mounting a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher," reports an online military account, Semper Supra, without specifying the number received. An official document related to the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program provides more details. "The Royal Moroccan Armed Forces have inspected a total of 597 M1117 armored vehicles as part of a foreign military sales agreement," the document states.

The Royal Armed Forces have approved the delivery of all the vehicles, after opening and visually inspecting the compartments of each vehicle and its essential components, to ensure operational readiness. These vehicles - described by the US Department of Defense as "excess defense articles" - are already circulating on public roads. Having become cumbersome for the US military, they have been reallocated to Morocco.

"These vehicles will be used for border surveillance missions, improving Morocco’s security structure and contributing to regional stability," the document further states.
