Morocco Blocks Algeria’s Plans for Consulate and Maritime Route in Melilla

Moroccans have thwarted Algeria’s attempts to open a maritime line between Melilla and Ghazouat and a consulate in the same city.
The governor of Nador and active Moroccan associations in this city have together thwarted the hegemonic ambitions of Algeria, reports Assabah. The Algerian military intelligence services were planning to open a consulate and a maritime line between the Algerian city of Ghazouat and Melilla.
The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior and Moroccan associations intervened to thwart these two projects. The owner of the building intended to house the consulate has gone back on his decision to rent it out. Similarly, the opening of a new maritime line between Melilla and the Algerian port of Ghazouat will no longer be effective. The city authorities have rather given their consent to the proposal to connect Melilla by a maritime service with the Moroccan port of Béni-Ansar.
