Morocco’s $1 Billion Nador West Med Port on Track for 2022 Completion

The construction work on the port of Nador West Med should be completed by the end of 2022. This was announced by Abdelkader Amara, Minister of Equipment and Transport, following a recent visit to this major project launched more than five years ago in the Oriental region.
According to the minister Abdelkader Amara’s observation on the ground, the progress of this port complex currently exceeds 55% and the completion of the work could take place towards the end of 2022 with the commissioning in 2024 of Nador West Med whose realization is estimated at more than 10 billion DH.

Like Tanger Med which is today achieving good performance, Nador West Med is designed to be the lever of industrial progress in the Oriental region. To this end, it aims to accelerate the economic and social development of this region, but also to strengthen Morocco’s maritime and port role, by guaranteeing it an optimal supply of energy products.
Intended to be multipurpose, the future port platform will prioritize container transshipment activities in order to capitalize on Morocco’s position on the major shipping lines. In addition to this, Nador West Med must develop a "Morocco offer" by accompanying the evolution of traffic and ship sizes in order to capitalize on the experience of Tanger Med. As one of the flagship activities, the Nador West Med complex will store and transship hydrocarbon products and will also develop solid bulk activity to meet medium and long-term needs in coal and, if necessary, in various traffic, note the designers of the project.
