Morocco’s Nador West Med Port Construction Reaches 45% Completion, Set for 2022 Opening

The construction work on the Nador West Med port is progressing rapidly. This is the main takeaway from the recent visit of the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water, Abdelkader Amara, to the construction site.
The overall progress rate of the construction work on the Nador West Med port is estimated at 45%, said the Minister of Equipment, Transport, Logistics and Water. According to Abdelkader Amara, the work will be completed by the end of the 2nd half of 2022.
Taking advantage of his visit to the site, he launched the work to widen and strengthen the RN15 national road, connecting the RN2 national road and Saka, over a length of 27 kilometers, reports L’Économiste.
In its first phase, the Nador West Med port will consist of a main breakwater of 4,300 m, a secondary breakwater of 1,200 m, a container quay of 1,520 m, a general cargo quay of 600 m, allowing to receive the largest commercial vessels, and three oil berths for oil and chemical tankers, capable of reaching a capacity of 170,000 tons.
Similarly, the port will have a specialized 360 m quay for solid bulk products, a ro-ro quay (trucks and trailers) and a 360 m service quay. These various quays in the first phase of the new Nador West Med port are capable of handling 3 million containers, 25 million tons of hydrocarbon products, 7 million tons of solid bulk products and 3 million tons of general cargo.
