Morocco: a beggar arrested with 110,000 dirhams in her possession
A woman was apprehended by a police patrol in Ben Guerir while she was begging accompanied by her two daughters, aged 4 and 9 years old. She had a large sum of money in her possession.
During a preliminary search, the authorities seized a sum of approximately 110,000 dirhams. This money is suspected to be the proceeds of begging and the exploitation of the two minors.
The person concerned was first presented before the King’s Attorney General in Marrakech on suspicion of "human trafficking". The case was ultimately referred to the Court of First Instance in Ben Guerir. The public prosecutor ordered her detention in the local prison for "begging with the use of children", pending her trial before the criminal court.
The two girls were entrusted to the social center in Ben Guerir to ensure their protection and social support.
