Morocco’s Bank Credit Growth Accelerates to 4.1% in June, Boosting Private Sector Lending

Bank credit in Morocco showed growth of 4.1% during the month of June. A pace accelerating compared to the trend observed a month earlier (+2.9%).
According to the latest statistics from Bank Al Maghrib, this increase was accompanied by a 4.2% increase in loans to private non-financial companies compared to 1.8% a month earlier.
The central bank specifies in this sense that the growth of loans to households has stabilized at 5.8% after the first half of the year.
Moreover, the breakdown by economic purpose of loans allocated to the non-financial sector shows an increase in working capital facilities of 9.7% after 6.1% in May, a stagnation in the growth of real estate loans at 4.4%, an increase in consumer loans of 1.6% after a decrease of 0.1% and a decrease in equipment loans of 2.8% after a decrease of 4.9%.
As for non-performing loans, their annual growth rate stood at 9.2% in June after 12.2% in May. Under these conditions, the non-performing loan ratio stood at 8.4%.
