Morocco Dominates Tunisian Date Market: Imports 18% of Exports, Outpacing European Buyers

With more than 18% of the volumes exported by Tunisia, Morocco retains its position as the leading importer of Tunisian dates, ahead of Italy and Germany.

According to data published by the National Observatory of Agriculture (Onagri, Tunisia), Morocco imported 18.4% of the volumes exported by Tunisia during the first ten months of the 2024-2025 agricultural season, making it the main buyer of Tunisian dates. The kingdom surpasses Italy (11.8%) and Germany (8.1%). In total, 127.2 thousand tons of Tunisian dates, of which 83.3% are of the "Deglet Nour" variety, were sold on foreign markets during the period from October 2024 to July 2025, a slight decrease in the quantities exported of 5.7% compared to the same period of the previous season (2023/2024).

A 3.5% decrease in the value of exports, estimated at 809.6 million dinars, of which 93.4% comes from the export of "Deglet Nour", was also recorded, the same source adds, noting that the exports of organic dates had reached, until the end of last July, 7.6 thousand tons, for a value of 66.5 million Tunisian dinars. As for the average price recorded during the first ten months of the current commercial season, it stands at 6.36 Tunisian dinars (about 20 Moroccan dirhams) per kilogram, and 7.09 dinars (about 22 Moroccan dirhams) for the "Deglet Nour" variety.

Last July, the kilogram cost 6.62 dinars (20.76 Moroccan dirhams), up 10.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.
