French Tourism Shifts: Domestic Travel Surges as Foreign Destinations See Decline

Awaiting the official statistics on this summer of 2025 which is coming to an end, the barometer of the Travel Companies, published in the economic daily "Les Echos", indicates that "the French have - a little - neglected abroad, to refocus on the Hexagon, up by 1.9%, reports the Nouvel Obs. The number of departures for foreign countries has decreased: -10.9% for the United States this summer. According to the US tourism office, the decline in French arrivals was around 6.6% in the first half of the year.

The situation is not looking good either for traditional destinations like Spain, Greece and Morocco. These countries have seen the number of French arrivals decline this summer. On the other hand, the number of French tourists arriving in Egypt or Canada has increased. France is doing better than other countries. In addition to French tourists, the Hexagon welcomes many foreigners. According to some figures, the arrival of Canadians in France was strongly on the rise throughout the summer: up 25%.

This increase is explained by the boycott of Trump’s America, whose anti-immigration policy is undermining American tourism. This situation benefits local hoteliers and landlords who are rubbing their hands.
