Morocco: Bad news at the pump (starting tomorrow)

The prices of diesel and gasoline in Morocco will increase as of this February 1st, driven by the volatility of global prices. Diesel is expected to cross the symbolic threshold of 10 dirhams again at the country’s service stations.

Moroccan motorists will have to face a revision of pump prices as of tonight. The price per liter of diesel will increase by 35 cents, while premium gasoline will increase by about 11 cents. This price adjustment comes at the end of a period of decline observed at the beginning of the year, during which prices had dropped significantly.

This national trend is in line with the sudden acceleration of global energy prices observed last Thursday. International markets have jumped by more than 5%, reaching their highest level in four months. This volatility is fueled by major geopolitical tensions, in particular the threats of military intervention made by US President Donald Trump against Iran.

After this update, the liter of diesel should cross the 10 dirhams mark again in the majority of outlets. For premium gasoline, retail prices should fluctuate between 11 and 12 dirhams. Industry professionals specify that these prices may vary from one brand to another depending on the storage and periodic updating strategies specific to each operator.
