Morocco Awards Major Contracts to Modernize National Rail Fleet

The National Railway Office (ONCF) has awarded three major contracts to three major manufacturers who submitted the most advantageous and economically viable bids as part of its program to acquire new trains.
The ONCF has finalized contracts related to its program to acquire 168 new generation trains. Morocco intends to renew the existing ONCF fleet and support traffic growth, as well as the development projects initiated by 2030 as part of the program. Three major contracts have thus been awarded to three major manufacturers.
The consortium consisting of the French company Alstom Transport SA and Alstom’s Railways Morocco was awarded the lot for the supply of 18 high-speed trains, according to Médias24. The Spanish company Construcciones y Auxialiar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) has won the contract for the acquisition of 40 intercity trains. The contract for the acquisition of 110 RER (rapid shuttle and metropolitan trains) trains was awarded to the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem.
In addition, these major manufacturers selected and the ONCF will conclude multi-year maintenance partnerships for the acquired trains.
