Morocco automotive workers anger low wages job insecurity

The National Labour Union of Morocco is alerting to a deterioration of social and professional conditions in one of the Kingdom’s main industrial hubs. In a statement relayed by Ecopress, its regional secretariat denounces the gap between the investments attracted to the region and the situation of many employees.

The situation would be particularly worrying in the wiring and automotive components sectors. Repeated departures of workers would reflect deep unease, fuelled by the gap between wages and the rising cost of living, but also by the intensity of work.

The union organization also accuses certain companies of restricting union activity. The creation of a union office or the hiring of an employee could, in some cases, lead to pressure or dismissals, it claims.
