Moroccan Iron Mine Workers Protest Chinese Company’s Labor Practices in Nador

An association in Nador strongly condemns the behavior of a manager of the Chinese company operating the iron mines in the city, who filed a complaint with the Royal Gendarmerie against a worker who allegedly attacked some Chinese.
This accusation is false, said the Association, which reserves the right to bring the case to justice. It recalls having denounced the meager bonuses that the Chinese company pays to Moroccan workers, namely 45 dirhams per ton, during a session with the deputy Farida Khiniti of the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) and a union delegation from the Moroccan Union of Workers.
The association also denounces "the constraint imposed on workers to sign a work contract with a company specializing in security, cleaning and catering, which constitutes a flagrant violation of the decree regulating the employment contract in the mines and the Labor Code", as well as the "non-compliance with working hours and the application of the law on overtime", "the deprivation of workers of means of protection, medicines and a fixed administrative office".
The association also mentioned "the import of 30-ton trucks from outside the province and their use on the fragile road" between two communes, as well as "the exclusion of local, provincial and regional companies, in favor of companies outside the region", not to mention "the use of chemical products mixed with water to clean the hematite powder, without the slightest means of protection" and "the encircling of the mine and the closure of the main road connecting Ikssane to the surrounding villages".
