Morocco’s Automotive Exports Surge 30.5% as Industry Booms

The Moroccan automotive sector has experienced strong growth in its exports, reaching nearly 116.38 billion dirhams (MMDH) at the end of October 2023, according to the latest data from the Foreign Exchange Office.
This 30.5% increase compared to the previous year is mainly attributable to the increase in sales in three key segments: construction, wiring, and vehicle interiors and seats. These positive results reflect the dynamism of the sector, driven by an increase of 10.87 MMDH for construction, 9.64 MMDH for wiring, and 1.91 MMDH for vehicle interiors.
In addition to automotive, the electronics and electrical sector also recorded a significant increase of 28.4%, with sales reaching 19.33 MMDH. The textile and leather sector also shows progress, with an increase of 5.5% thanks in particular to ready-made garments and knitwear. This positive picture is, however, tempered by a slight decline in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, as well as in other mining extractions. The aeronautics sector remains stable.
Despite these positive developments in several sectors, phosphate exports and derivatives have suffered a worrying decline, from 101.79 MMDH to 57.62 MMDH at the end of October 2023. This decrease is particularly pronounced in sales of natural and chemical fertilizers, phosphoric acid and phosphates, with respective declines of 41.1%, 46.4% and 51.8%.
