Morocco Surges to Second Place in Global Phosphate Production, Outpacing US and Russia

Morocco has significantly increased its phosphate production to the point of surpassing the United States and Russia. This is revealed by the ranking of the American Geophysical Institute "US Geological Survey".
With 40 million tons of phosphates produced during the past year 2022, Morocco ranks second in the ranking of the American Geophysical Institute "US Geological Survey" ahead of the United States and Russia (13 million tons of phosphates) and behind China which produced nearly 85 million tons.

Morocco is at the top of the same ranking in the Arab world with 50 billion tons of phosphate reserves. It is followed by Jordan (10 million tons). Then come Saudi Arabia (9 million tons), Egypt (5 million tons). With 4 million tons, Tunisia completes the top 5.

The American Geophysical Institute "US Geological Survey" also specifies that the annual global phosphate production rate is estimated at 240 million tons, and the estimates of economically extractable phosphate reserves in the world are 69 billion tons, while the potentially exploitable resources of phosphate rock are 300 billion tons.
