Morocco and Spain Strengthen Ties as Kings Mohammed VI and Felipe VI Collaborate on Key Issues

The relationship between Kings Mohammed VI and Felipe VI is very warm. Together, they have been managing several files concerning Morocco and Spain in recent weeks through telephone calls.

"King Felipe VI had spoken with the world’s top leaders like the US president and Queen Elizabeth II, but he has not forgotten the importance of the southern neighbor, Morocco, and its king," sources tell Maghreb Intelligence. In short, this constant contact has allowed the two sovereigns to make decisions of great importance for the development of their countries and the lives of their peoples.

Among these files, we can mention the unblocking of the repatriation of Moroccans stranded in Ceuta and Melilla on Friday, May 15. Another example: on the instructions of King Mohammed VI, nearly 2,000 Spanish nationals and residents in Spain will be repatriated to the Iberian country on Friday, May 22.

Spain is the first country authorized to carry out maritime repatriations of its nationals from Morocco. From May 22, a line will be very active between Tanger Med and Malaga with connections that will take place on May 28 and June 4, it is specified.

On Friday, April 11, King Mohammed VI and King Felipe VI of Spain discussed common responses to covid-19 to be implemented for the well-being of their peoples. "Spain, in every way, is behaving better, for the good of the two countries, than the Netherlands, Belgium or France. One should never look down on a first-rate partner like Morocco," the same sources say.
