Morocco and Spain Expand Energy Partnership, Focus on Gas and Renewable Interconnections

Morocco and Spain are working to intensify their cooperation in the fields of energy, gas and hydrogen. The Moroccan Minister of Energy and his Spanish counterpart exchanged views during a videoconference on the strategies to be adopted to achieve this.
During these exchanges, the two personalities raised essential points such as natural gas, the electrical interconnection between Morocco and Spain, cooperation in the field of hydrogen as well as the joint roadmap on the trade of renewable energies. Aziz Rabbah and his counterpart reiterated their common will to continue the discussions and studies relating to the gas interconnection.
Regarding the electrical interconnection, the two parties expressed the wish to activate the implementation of the memorandum of understanding relating to the development of a third Morocco-Spain electrical interconnection. They also called for the intensification of the activities of the working group made up of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEP) and the Spanish company Red Electrica.
As for hydrogen, the two officials proposed that contacts be established by the Moroccan and Spanish authorities in order to explore all the possibilities for good cooperation.
