Morocco and Senegal Clash for Top Spot in Women’s AFCON Group Stage

The Atlas Lionesses face those of Teranga this Friday evening, in an important match, even though the two teams have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations currently being played in Morocco.
Senegal hopes to win this match which, according to coach Mame Moussa Cissé, will be "a final for first place". Qualified each on their side with six points, the two teams are fighting to have the first place, in order to avoid having to cross in the quarter-finals a big team and to give themselves a chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Senegalese coach is confident, but keeps his feet on the ground, because the Atlas Lionesses have shown themselves to be fierce and determined since the start of the competition. And to top it off, they are playing in front of their home crowd. "It won’t be easy against the Atlas Lionesses. There will be a crowd, there will be a game and it’s the kind of match that can make the girls grow," reports MAP.
A view shared by the head of women’s football at the Senegalese Football Federation, Seyni Ndir Seck. She believes that the Senegalese Lionesses will try to surprise the Atlas Lionesses at home. And the watchword according to her is "to fight to the end to stay in Rabat".
Former captain of the Senegalese women’s team, she hopes that the Teranga Lionesses will give themselves a chance to go further. "When we came here, I always said that the number one objective was to get past the first round. Insofar as when we did our first African Cup, we had three matches, three defeats. Today we are one game away from a World Cup and I think it’s feasible, we just have to give it our all to get there," she notes.
