Morocco and Ivory Coast Praised in White House Women’s Empowerment Report

Saturday 15 February 2020, by Sylvanus

The "most striking advances in the first year of existence of the W-GDP go to the governments of Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco, each of which have introduced amendments to laws to promote the economic empowerment of women and restore women’s land and property rights," acknowledged Ivanka Trump. The adviser to President Donald Trump commended these governments for leading these "important and bold" reforms.

The W-GDP 2019-2020 report, published by the World Bank, reviewed Ivanka Trump and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) CEO Sean Cairncross’ visit to Morocco in November. The two personalities had met with government representatives and local officials to discuss ways to help strengthen the economic empowerment of women, in particular by consolidating access to land.

During their visit, the American delegation had taken note of the legislative reform implemented by Morocco, which consisted of revising the structure and administration of communal lands, including for women.

Pleased with these advances, Ivanka Trump had, in tweets and posts on Instagram, congratulated Morocco and King Mohammed VI for the important reforms undertaken in favor of women.
