Morocco’s Anchois Gas Field Exceeds Expectations, Boosting Energy Prospects

The Anchois gas resources have far exceeded the estimates, according to the results of the certification. Chariot company will start the exploitation of the well, while continuing the exploration and accelerating the procedures for the commercialization of the gas on the Moroccan market as a priority.
The Chariot company, which is conducting oil and gas exploration in Morocco, announced on Wednesday, July 20, the results of the independent certification carried out by Netherland Sewell & Associates Inc. on the Anchois gas field off the coast of Larache, discovered in December 2021 and January 2022, following the exploration initiated by Repsol in 2019.
These results indicate a significant increase in gas resources off the coast of Larache, with contingent resources increasing from 5.7 billion to 10.2 billion m³ (+82%) and prospective resources increasing from 10 to 18 billion m³. In other words, the certified resources are more significant than the estimates.
The company will continue its development work, while accelerating the steps for the commercialization of the gas on the Moroccan market. It will take two years to achieve this objective, explains Pierre Raillard, Managing Director of Chariot in Morocco. The company holds 75% of the Lixus permit and the remaining 25% belongs to the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM).
