Morocco Allows Women Under 45 to Perform Hajj Without Male Guardian, Sets 34,000 Pilgrim Quota

The Royal Commission in charge of the pilgrimage in Morocco has just set the quota for the 1444 Hajj season at 34,000 pilgrims. This decision was made following the lifting of restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the requirement for pilgrims to be under 65 years of age. The procedure for paying the fees will take place in a single payment between February 27 and March 10, 2023.

In a statement issued after the Commission’s meeting, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, explained that the citizens and citizens selected to perform the Hajj rites will be selected as a priority among those who had retained their right to the Hajj the previous season, then among the people on the waiting list for the 2019 draw.

The minister also announced that the conditions for the pilgrimage this year differ little from those of last year. The announcement of the Hajj fees for the 1444 season is scheduled for February 15, 2023 at the latest. Pilgrims will be able to travel to the Holy Sites in early June 2023, with a stay period of 28 to 30 days.

Similarly, the fee payment operation will be managed in a single payment by the travel agencies selected for the organization of the Hajj by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, according to the determined rates. Citizens will be able to obtain their receipt from these travel agencies.

Registration for the draw for the 1445 Hajj season will be done online, from March 20 to 30, for pilgrims supervised by the ministry and travel agencies. In addition, women under 45 are no longer required to be accompanied, and people who have performed the Hajj in the last ten years as well as children under 18 will not be eligible.
