Morocco Aims to Revitalize Tourism Sector Amid Pandemic Challenges

Morocco must relaunch its tourism with more serenity and more ambition, despite the health crisis it is going through. This is what the Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, indicated on Tuesday.

Speaking remotely at the "Tourism Marketing Days", organized in a semi-face-to-face format and initiated by the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), the Minister of Tourism emphasized the importance of the sector, which has been severely affected by the health crisis. She did not fail to mention the statistics generated by the sector: 7.1% of the national GDP and more than 70 billion in foreign exchange earnings. Despite the crisis, she indicated that the sector has had the manifest support of the government, reports MAP.

Continuing her intervention, the minister hinted that this post-crisis relaunch, which involves the reopening of hotels, remains a necessity. Taking the opportunity, she praised the efforts of tourism stakeholders in managing the crisis. For her, the exemplary management of the health crisis is a major asset to continue investments.

She also added that the main goal now is to put in place the necessary measures to welcome new tourists who have already started traveling again. In addition, it is necessary to "give a taste to the citizens of the world who still want to travel," she observed.

With the confirmation of tour operators and tourists, a new promising tourism is on the horizon, in her opinion. A more solid and more digital tourism, emphasized Ms. Fettah Alaoui. In this sense, she suggested that all operators register in the "Welcome Safety" project, which is a new label with international standards that Moroccan hotel establishments will now have to observe, in order to be more competitive, especially in view of the strong competition in the sector.

This second edition of the B2B event brought together all tourism professionals, decision-makers and all actors in the tourism value chain around the watchword: "Act, Reconquer, Now!"
