Morocco Aims to Advance Past World Cup Group Stage for First Time Since 1986

A few weeks before the kick-off of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the coach of the Moroccan national team Walid Regragui assures that the Atlas Lions are working to get past the group stage. A feat achieved in 1986.
"Succeeding at the World Cup is to get past the first round. We haven’t managed to do it since 1986, but we will fight to achieve it despite the high level of our group," said Walid Regragui in an interview with the FIFA website. Ranked in Group F, Morocco will start their sixth participation in the final phase of the 2022 World Cup by challenging Croatia (finalist of the last edition), before crossing swords with Belgium (eliminated by the Blues in the semi-finals of the previous edition), and finally Canada (back 36 years after their only participation in 1986) on the 3rd day.
Aware of the stakes, the coach assures that the selection will have a plan for each confrontation, and that it will try to win as many matches as possible to make the whole country proud. The coach is counting on his players who will, according to him, be combative and give everything on the field.
