Morocco Advances Plans for New Tangier-Tetouan Rail Line to Boost Regional Connectivity

The National Railway Office (ONCF) is advancing the Tangier-Tetouan rail line project. The feasibility study of the project has just been entrusted to a Moroccan company.
New developments for the Tangier-Tetouan rail line. The Moroccan engineering firm Innov Engineering has won the contract to prepare the study of the project, reports Rue20. This new line will not only facilitate the movement of passengers between Moroccan cities in addition to connecting them to the Tanger Med port station, currently used only for the transport of cars, but it will also strengthen the connection of the cities of M’diq, Fnideq, Cabo Negro, as well as the luxury hotel complexes that have opened in the coastal tourist area, with the airports of Tangier, Tetouan, and the port of Tanger Med.
This rail link also responds to the need to prepare Tangier to host the 2030 World Cup that Morocco will co-organize with Spain and Portugal. It will facilitate access to the coastal cities of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, with a view to the 2030 World Cup, where a semi-urban rail line with several stations will be set up to transport travelers and supporters to and from Tangier, via Chrafate, towards the Tangier airport, the Tangier stadium, as well as the Tanger Med port, it is specified.
