Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi Honors Mother After World Cup Victory Over Belgium

Morocco won their match against Belgium (2-0) on Sunday in the 2nd round of Group F of the World Cup. Achraf Hakimi dedicated the victory to his mother, whom he went to kiss in the stands at the end of the match. The image of the scene became viral on social media.
Achraf Hakimi played until the 68th minute, before leaving the field. After the final whistle, the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender went up to the stands of the Al Thumama stadium to dedicate the victory to his mother. He posted on his Instagram account photos in which we see him giving a kiss on the forehead to his mother, who in turn gave him one on the cheek. "I love you mom," the 24-year-old player wrote in the caption of his post that went viral.
Internet users hailed the beauty of the player’s gesture. "Family is always more important than anything," reacted one of them. "Your mother is the person who will be with you through thick and thin," wrote another. "You are a great footballer and, above all, a good son," commented another. Kylian Mbappé, Achraf Hakimi’s teammate and friend at PSG, also reacted to the post by putting an emoji representing a crown.
In a statement to the press a few months ago, Achraf Hakimi had specified that the members of his family were very humble. "My mother was a cleaning lady. My father was a street vendor. Playing football was a dream for me and a sacrifice for them. My brothers sacrificed things. We were very poor. Now, I fight for them," he had confided.
