Moroccans, soon to be deprived of IPTV?

Europe has decided to crack down on IPTV, which allows you to watch thousands of channels for just a few euros per month. This war, if won, could also affect Moroccans.

The pressure from the sports world, which estimates it is losing nearly 800,000 euros per day due to IPTV, has pushed Italy to pass a law on August 8 that fines IPTV users 5,000 euros, reports La Libre.be. The same law could, in the near future, guarantee the blocking of IPTV services. For now, this law has not yet had any effect. About a hundred pirate services remain accessible after their identification. This delay would be due to security reasons, according to TorrentFreak. Upstream, two challenges must be met: to avoid that this blocking system falls victim to cyberattacks from these professionals who have a grip on the pirate networks, or sanctions legitimate services.

Morocco, which has become a "great football nation" by being among the strongest teams at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, is very fond of IPTV. This tool offers them a wide range of channels at a cost that defies all competition. The Kingdom is being pointed out by some of its European partners, as it would host many networks dedicated to IPTV.

This is the case, for example, of Hicham O., Moroccan mastermind of Europe’s largest pirate IPTV network. This 30-year-old Moroccan is the manager and shareholder of Globe Datacenter and Satellite Wholesale BV in Almere, two companies targeted by raids in the Netherlands.

The thirty-year-old is one of the four people arrested by the Dutch authorities last May. Considered a key player in the criminal IPTV operation, he is accused of having laundered more than 17.5 million euros. His full trial will take place next year.
