Moroccans Moving to Luxembourg Will Need a Long-Stay Visa From October 1
From October 1, 2026, Moroccans wishing to move to Luxembourg for work, study or to join family will have to follow a new procedure. The prior application for temporary residence authorization will be replaced by an application for a long-stay visa.

According to the Luxembourg government, the reform applies to first-time applications to move to the country for more than 90 days.
The application must be submitted in person to a Luxembourg diplomatic mission or, if the country has no Luxembourg representation, to the competent Belgian embassy. Until now, the process began with the Directorate of Immigration.
A visa valid for six months
The D visa will allow applicants to enter Luxembourg and travel within the Schengen Area while they wait for their residence permit.
Renewals and changes to the category of residence permit follow a different procedure. Family members of EU citizens are also excluded from the reform.
After arriving, applicants will have to register with their municipality of residence within three days, then submit their application for a residence permit to the Directorate of Immigration.
